AI Tech Is Definitely Evolving Fast
Researchers are relentlessly working to improve AI’s capacity to produce reliable content that readers won’t be able to distinguish from human writing. Content automation currently relies on two main technologies: Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG). The former analyzes and understands language, while the latter processes data, follows a pre-set template and builds a structured narrative.
This level of automation is very effective for producing fact-driven content like sports and financial reports, legal documents, clinical reports, product descriptions, political speeches and standard news copy.
But for the time being, I’m not particularly worried. AI-generated content is still a long way from building and nurturing long-term relationships with a customer base. AI still lacks creativity (it can’t create something out of nothing) and the capacity to stir emotion with a strong voice. And besides, who would be thrilled to learn that the content they read was generated by a machine? Not me, for sure.
As a content writer, I see this as an opportunity to highlight the unique value I can bring to businesses: content with heart and soul.
How You Can Write Content That AI Cannot Replicate
If you want to make it hard for AI to emulate your content, you should implement these components in your writing:
– Personality: Be what the AI cannot be (for now): a person. Develop a strong sense of humor, hone your conversational tone, show some of your vulnerabilities or take a stance on an issue. Discuss with your client her core values and defend them with fervor. People who share these values with you will feel a strong connection to your content. Remember that people buy from people, not businesses.
– Emotions: Tap into the reader’s fears, desires, hopes and anxieties. Show that you understand her and empathize with the range of emotions she feels while experiencing a problem and once she finds a solution. Doing this requires understanding customer psychology and using emotionally-charged words.
– Life experience: This one is more fitting when writing about an issue you experienced first-hand. Telling a real-life story grabs attention and creates a connection between the writer and his readers. Just make sure there is an actionable takeaway for the reader. Expose past failures, share funny anecdotes and celebrate your victories, all in relation to the topic at hand. Be genuine while providing useful information. Content that combines sincerity and insight yields the most engagement.

Content writers won’t be the first to lose their jobs, but that doesn’t mean they can rest on their laurels. I think they should strive to make their content harder to automate by creating a genuine bond with readers.
Machines may become better at reporting facts, but it’s still hard for them to fake human warmth. Go beyond reporting statistics and describing facts. Add your personal take and show empathy. Customers want to read content from someone who cares about them. Cultivate your creativity, sharpen your voice and your skills as a writer will remain stay on demand for the years to come.
